Andrew McGill, Master Mason, The Glasgow Star Lodge No.219

 

Born on the 11th July 1924 Andrew McGill was a Professional footballer who played as a wing half. McGill started his career at Cathkin Park side Third Lanark in 1942. Andrew would spend 3 years with the club before moving to Queen’s Park in the summer of 1945.

Andrew would only be at Queen’s Park for 1 season before moving to Shawfield with Clyde. Andrew would make 4 appearances for Clyde before moving South of the Border, but before he went he was part of the Clyde squad that toured South Africa in 1947.

In November 1947 Andrew moved to Valley Parade with Bradford City. McGill would make 164 appearances, scoring 24 times for Bradford in the 5 years with the club. He would then move on to Scunthorpe.

Joining Scunthorpe in 1952 again McGill would spend 5 years at Old Show Ground this was where Scunthorpe played at that time. He would be part of the League Third Division Champions team of 1958. This would be the High of his time at the club but unfortunately he is part of the Low by playing in the record defeat for the club. Losing 8-0 to Carlisle on 25th November 1952.

In a career spanning 15 years Andrew McGill would make 251 appearances in total, scoring 39 goals. Andrew would pass away In September 1988 in Beverley, England
